Headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa, Sexy Socks is determined to make a difference. Our socially-driven sock company is at the forefront of for-profit business that uses business as a force for change in our community.
Our mission?
To provide every child in South Africa with a pair of socks to wear to school. That’s why for every single pair of Sexy Socks sold, we give a pair of school socks to a South African child in need. Warm toes all round.
It all began in 2014.
But why socks?
Contrary to what you may imagine, South Africa has a temperate climate meaning that in the winter it gets COLD! As a country that struggles with poverty, inequality and slow economic development, many items that are considered basic staples in the developed world, are unaffordable for many people.
Children in South Africa are all required to wear a school uniform to school, and in poverty-stricken areas, school socks are often the last item to be purchased. When founder, Dave Hutchison, first witnessed the harsh reality that many South African children go to school without a pair of socks to wear, the idea to build a sock brand that provided school socks to those in need was born. Sexy Socks’ give back is written into its DNA, and is a core component of the brand. For every single pair that we sell, we give a pair of school socks to a child in need in South Africa.
But that isn’t enough. We also use our Sock Drops (where we visit schools to deliver the school socks) as an invaluable platform to engage with the students and talk about social entrepreneurship, the fact that business can (and should!) be used as a force for good and a force for change, and ultimately encourage them to find something in their everyday life to make their community a better place.

The reason we do what we do.
In 2024, we donated our 500 000th pair of school socks. That is no mean feat, and we were excited! We immediately set our sights on the next goal: to donate our 1 millionth pair before the end of 2025.
A quick Google search, however, tells us that there are 13.5 million school children in South Africa. We realised that we needed to step up our efforts in a big way if we are to achieve our goal of providing a pair of school socks to every child in South Africa, and to do that, we need to think outside of our community. And this is how we ended up in yours.
In November 2024, we opened our doors in America.
